What is GATE?

GATE is a national-level examination that tests comprehensive understanding of undergraduate subjects in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, and Arts. GATE 2026 will be conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

Uses of GATE Score

  1. Admission to Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, and Arts
  2. Admission to Doctoral programs in relevant branches with financial assistance
  3. Recruitment by numerous Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)

Note: Many institutions use GATE scores for admission even without MoE scholarship/assistantship.
